The heart of the cultural life of Trnava and its surroundings has been for almost two centuries the Ján Palárik Theatre, the oldest theatre in Slovakia, named after the significant Slovak playwriter Ján Palárik. It combines history with progressive dramaturgy. The theatre maintains the message of the Slovak and world´s classics, but also brings valuable and provocative contemporary world production, often in the Slovak premiere. It opens to visitors of all ages from Trnava and the nearby region, but its offer exceeds the borders of the Trnava region. The theatre continues to seek new impulses and establishes collaborations with top local and foreign artists. Every month it brings a rich selection of theatre performances (local and hosting), which is complemented by a varied off-theatre programme: creative workshops, an open day, talk show In front of the curtain, theatre tours and much more.
The historical Mirror Hall is regularly transformed into the Pannonia Music Club and presents exceptional Slovak musicians. The theatre publishes its own magazine quarterly, cooperates with secondary schools and universities, provides space for amateur theatres, lends theatre costumes, and offers space for rent. The newest part of the theatre is the café Bezkydov opened all day long. The Ján Palárik Theatre is an integral part of the cultural identity of Trnava and its programme fulfils the function of a modern cultural institution of the 21st century.
We invite you to enjoy the atmosphere of today's theatre during theatre performances or classical music concerts.
